The Steininger Young has to be one of the BEST patio wines we've come across in a long time. The wine is fun, fresh and had great fruit. Aromas of soft orange blossom curl out of the glass, along with a note of spiced white pineapple. Flavors of lemon zest and tart melon are on the palate, along with a refreshing acidity, making this a great wine for the Spring and Summer months. The wine is also a perfect match for pan-seared fish dishes.

An impressive value from new young winemaker, Paul Direder. Working with mentor Tony Bauer, Paul has created a fantastic value Gruner that you'll love drinking this Summer and Fall -- and, the 1 liter bottle is perfect for parties! The wine is a golden straw color with delightful aromas of stone fruits and spice. This is a surprisingly ripe Grüner for the price, showing plenty of spicy stone fruits and apple flavors with a long, dry, finish. At just $8.99 for a one liter bottle, you'll be hard pressed to find a better white to enjoy at casual picnics, parties or meals.

Gruner Veltliner is a grape that is heating up the wine world. Ironically, it's known for it's cool crisp lemon and lime notes that give sauvignon blanc a little run for its money. A perfect warm weather sipper. Very refreshing with a side of zip and zest. A great wine with seafood and hotter Asian dishes.
- Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2009 Product #23280 (In Stock)

The inaugural, 2008, vintage of Anton Bauer's Gruner Veltliner "Gmork" was a huge hit here at Cecile's Wine Cellar, but the 2009 cranks up the deliciousness even further. The Washington Post's Wine Critic, Dave MacIntyre, just gave the 2009 Gmork his highest "***" rating, saying:
"The 2009 Anton Bauer "Gmork" Gruner Veltliner leapt to the top of my list of this year's favorite white wines, especially when I saw its modest $11 price tag. It combines zesty lime with chalky minerality and a soft floral note that carries a whiff of spring. You'll be tempted to drink it now, but it should only get better with age...This delightful wine offers a fine example of what wine lovers call minerality: subtle flavors of lime zest with a hint of peach and nuances of talc and stone. It conjures an image of vine roots stretching through rocky soil, reaching for the essence of the earth."

The vineyard is called Frauenweingarten. When we tasted this wine the first time 3 vintages back it was in tank #26 and we loved it so much that we asked Martin Mittelbach all night to give us more T26. The 2008 is unbelievable good!!! Very aromatic, full of round fruit balanced with crisp acidity. The distinct soil lends a pleasant mineral and the tropical fruit play is balanced with the white pepper note typical of this varietal. Pairs well with a wide range of foods including Asian cuisine and fish with fresh herbs. Excellent value and quality

A beautiful Gruner that's perfect for drinking tonight with seafood, cured meats, or just on it's own. Pretty aromas of apple, nectarine and white pepper follow through in the mouth. - Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Reserve 2009 Product #23443 (In Stock)
-
-
Anton Bauer has been growing some of the Gurner Veltliner in Austria for close to 2 decades. His reserve Gruner Veltliner does not see any barrel again; rather the Reserve term applies to the length on which the grapes stay on the vine. Reserve grapes are the best of the vineyard and the extra hang time gives the wines a more lush texture. The nose has delicious aromas of white peppered pear and citrus zest. The palate is mineral driven, but broadens in the mid palate to crisp golden apple and slight pine nuts. A great wine to pair with halibut.
- Steininger Gruner Veltliner Grand Gru 2009 Product #23444 (In Stock)

-
The Grand Gru grapes are harvested very late and then placed in Acacia barrels. The wine has delicious aromas of golden pear and peppered honeysuckle. The wine is a little richer than other Gruner Veltliners. The palate has flavors of delicious golden apple and citrus zest, with slight notes of yellow apricot. A great wine to have beurre blanc fish dishes.
